Traditional, not trendy, materials and finishes were used to complete the kitchen renovation in this 1950's Orinda home. Modern appliances and more counter space were added but most of the existing fir cabinets stayed in place. The washer and dryer were removed from the kitchen and the resulting space accommodates a new built-in desk that matches the existing cabinetry. A free-standing table for two is made of the same materials. While major use areas of the kitchen remain in the same general places, the overall design and workability of the kitchen have been improved.
