This kitchen was dated and the appliances were aging.
The owners wanted to bring the room into the 21st century, yet keep the
aesthetic values of the 1920s home. The fixture and appliance locations
remained the same, but were all replaced. No walls were moved and the
footprint remained the same.
White cabinets and counters brighten what was a dark
room. The window over the sink was changed from a fixed aluminum unit
to multilite casements, similar to those used in the rest of the building.
Hardwood flooring replaces parquet squares. Most strikingly, a tile backsplash
is introduced where there was none previously. A feature strip of small
glass tiles adds a touch of elegance. Mahogany moldings, which match those
in the living room and dining room, were used.
