Projects | Before and After

This old kitchen is not very functional and lacks storage. The electrical and plumbing need updating.
The kitchen is given new life with period details and marmoleum tile. Storage and counterspace is greatly improved!

This kitchen was remodeled in the 1970’s. While it is functional the tile counters are hard to maintain and the cabinetry is showing wear. But what drove the project forward was the owners’ desire for their kitchen to match the style of their San Francisco Edwardian home.
This Edwardian kitchen renovation included metal ceilings, custom cabinets and an intricate tiled floor. Full inset cabinetry and marble countertops fit the period of their home. Winner - Chysalis Award - Best Kitchen over $100,000 Designed By: Rynerson & OʼBrien Architecture.
This 1930’s bungalow kitchen has limited counterspace and cabinetry for today’s modern living.
The kitchen renovation combined the breakfast room and kitchen to form a larger, lighter, more usable kitchen while still maintaining the period charm.

This 1960’s kitchen was in good condition. But with the appliances and the asbestos flooring needing replacing the owner was ready to update the space.
The renovation replaced cabinetry, appliances and countertops with modern contemporary finishes that will last (and remain stylish) another 40 years!
This 1960’s home has a gorgeous view and a bright and light living/dining room. But the kitchen is closed off by walls, making it dark and narrow.
The solution was to take down the walls and open the kitchen to the living areas. Now the cook is part of the party and can enjoy the view.

Anyone who has lived in San Francisco will be familiar with the problems of this kitchen: a pantry that is not accessible, a small sink-base cabinet that provides the only prep surface and inadequate, cheaply-made cabinets.
We completely gutted the old kitchen and replaced it with modern (and green!) cabinetry, new appliances and improved ventilation.
Today, families spend on average 3 to 4 hours a day in their kitchens. The kitchen has become the living room of most modern homes. By partially removing the wall between the dining room and kitchen the space will function as the family living room.
Our kitchen designer partially removed the wall between the kitchen and dining room in this San Francisco home to create a modern, functional floor plan. Winner – 2nd Place – 2008 NARI Remmie Award – Best Kitchen over $100,000. Designed by Winans Construction.

This Lafayette kitchen suffered from the prior remodels that occurred over the 60-year history of the house.
The kitchen was completely remodeled as part of a whole house remodel. The clients chose green-built cabinetry, butcher block for the island, and re-cycled material for the countertops. Extending the wood flooring from the rest of the house created a seamless, open floor plan.
This typical small bathroom was in need of more storage and new fixtures.
In this bathroom remodel we completely removed the old bathroom and built a modern, clean, and functional bathroom that meets the clients needs.

The owner of this contemporary home in San Francisco did not like the Craftsman-style bathroom with its difficult-to-clean tile.
By replacing the wall and floor tile we gave this bathroom the contemporary facelift that the client desired.

Winans Construction’s bathroom renovation services took this Richmond bath from the 1960ʼs to today.
This bathroom renovation involved all new fixtures, finishes and plumbing. A large shower with glass enclosure replaced the confined outdated cubicle shower. We also installed solatubes for added light and efficiency.
The family room in this 1930’s cottage did not meet the family’s storage needs or their style.
By removing the wood paneling, adding new windows and creating new built-ins for storage, this family room became a pleasant space.

This San Francisco historic home’s dining room had been tampered with through the years and had lost its charm.
The fireplace in this San Francisco dining room was rebuilt, the wood trim was renovated and the walls replastered. Designed By: Rynerson & OʼBrien Architecture
San Francisco Deck: The owners of this San Francisco home did not have ac-cess to the outdoors. The lot is very steep and three levels below the living areas of the house.
San Francisco Deck: Our deck builder created a stunning two level deck from steel and wood.

This San Francisco home has a beautiful interior but the outdoor space had been neglected.
Winans Construction’s craftsmen executed a minor exterior renovation that had major impact. We rebuilt the deck with Trex and increased the size for outdoor entertaining and outdoor living. The exterior now is as beautiful as the interior of this home.
The owners of this home were in need of a family room addition.
We matched the architecture of the existing house and seamlessly incorporated the new family room while adding some enhancements to the structure and garden.

The original board and batten siding of this house was cracked and warped and the brick was pulling away from the structure. The overall look was out-dated and the owners were ready for a change.
The house repair project utilized low maintenance Hardie Shingles, smooth integral color stucco, and energy-efficient windows.
