Winans Construction is proud to be an award-winning contractor. Since 1978, we have continuously received significant recognition for our remodeling in Berkeley, Oakland, the East Bay and the San Francisco Bay Area. We have been honored as business owners and association leaders whose professionalism has enhanced the remodeling industry.
Winans Construction wins 2010 Regional Contractor of the Year (CotY) Award
The National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI) named Winans Construction, Inc., in Oakland, CA, 2010 Regional CotY (Contractor of the Year) winner in the Residential Interior $100,000 and Over category of its annual awards competition. The award-winning entry was the remodel of the circa-1908 Alameda home of Celeste and Sam Tamura. Their small upstairs kitchen had been in need of an update for years, while other areas of the house were less than optimal. “The awkwardness of our kitchen kept us from entertaining as much as we would have liked,” says Celeste, “We had to cook upstairs and bring the food downstairs to our guests.” more>
Sunset Western Home Alliance
In December 2004, Winans Construction, Inc. was named a member of the prestigious Sunset Western Home Alliance. Members of the Sunset Western Home Alliance are selected on an invitation-only basis, with each candidate meeting strict criteria for excellence in categories including: sustainable and environmentally responsible building and development, customer service, maintenance of highest construction and energy-efficiency standards and innovative, efficient use of interior space. Building on more than a century of expertise in Western home and design trends, Sunset magazine created the Sunset Western Home Alliance, a member-based organization recognizing the West's best homebuilders.
BIG50 Hall of Fame
Winans Construction was named to the Big50 Hall of Fame in 1992. Started by Hanley-Wood's REMODELING Magazine in 1986, the Big50 recognizes best-run companies that have a tight control on costs, know how to target work, and do good, quality remodeling, with honesty and integrity. The magazine's editors slot companies into categories of business and industry excellence, such as teamwork and industry impact. REMODELING'S editorial staff sets the criteria, based on longevity, profitability, and firm commitment to customer service and best practice standards.
National Remodeling Quality Gold Award
Winans Construction received this prestigious award in 2001. Patterned after the Malcolm Baldridge National Quality Award given by the U.S. Department of Commerce, the NRQ Award is designed to promote awareness of customer-focused quality as an increasingly vital element of competitiveness and productivity for remodelers. Entries are judged by a panel of experts who evaluate the role that customer-focused quality plays in construction, business management, sales, design and warranty service. Winners have developed a company culture of customer-focused excellence.
Nari Certified Professionals
NARI Certification
In 1983, the NARI Certification Program provided the remodeling industry with its first formalized standard of expertise and ethical conduct for professional remodelers. These certifications recognize remodelers who have undergone detailed review and testing in areas of business management, technical skills and ethical conduct. NARI Certification is a challenging process requiring extensive knowledge of the industry and a commitment to professional conduct. Once awarded their certification, NARI certified remodelers must meet annual recertification requirements involving continuing education and participation in industry related programs. Winans Construction is proud to have NARI certified Lead Carpenters on staff.
Certified Green Building Professionals
In 2003, Alameda County Waste Management Authority partnered with the San Francisco Bay Area chapter of NARI to develop Green Building Professional Certification for California licensed building professionals. The certification program provides local building professionals with an opportunity to become educated and trained in green building, including green materials and methodologies, so that they can provide excellent, informed green design/build and construction. Recertification is mandatory every two years. Winans Construction is proud to have participated in this program since its inception.
