Finally Time for More Room
and a View

Visitors to this 3-level house in the Richmond Hills are welcomed into an open and vibrant space boasting a gorgeous view of the valley below. Carol Atacador and Julia Casella have loved their home for more than 18 years, but the feeling that it could be even better with some remodeling was never far from their minds. Before their recent renovation, the expansive view was not emphasized in the home's design, and the kitchen was unusually small and cut off from the rest of the living areas.
Along with aesthetic and functional goals for the remodel, a main concern was integrating green building and design as much as possible. "It was important to us to make our home more green with this remodel," says Carol, "Their expertise in this area was one of the reasons we chose Winans Construction."
It is gratifying for Carol and Julia to see their desire for green living expressed in each room of their house. While their remodel added quite a bit of dramatic appeal and a new mood to their living space, Carol appreciates that the changes did not detract from the essential simplicity of their home. The environment feels comfortable and relaxing ... just as suitable for sitting peacefully together as it is for entertaining large parties.
"We spend a lot more time in the living room now," says Carol, "Just enjoying the view and listening to music. But when we do have friends and family over, our environment is so much more conducive to entertaining now. We can cook and be together at the same time. The new spirit of our home is more intimate and friendly."
